Finally some good news for retailers!

Published: 29th May 2009

Retailers in UK tourist locations will appreciate how good weather can quickly turn things around, the sunshine never fails to attract tourists to coastal towns, tourist cities, and countryside attractions, and news that overseas holidays are 20% down from last year is an indicator that more people are likely to take domestic holidays, lining the pockets of UK business's and reducing leakage from the economy .

The feeble pound is the main deterrent for holidaying abroad, but for overseas tourists this is the perfect chance to take advantage of the good exchange rates.

Good news also for the consumer, despite little press coverage, decreasing interest rates have consequently lowered mortgage rates. This means that home owners have more disposable income and therefor more money for non essential purchases.

For all retailers the combination of good weather, increased inbound tourism, and more domestic holidaying, means that this summer should see a boost to trade.
